Approximately 20 barrels of oil were recovered outside secondary containment following the discovery. Approximately 1,040 cubic yards of impacted material were excavated and transported to the Buffalo Ridge Landfill located in Keenesburg, Colorado for disposal. Excavation activities were guided by field screening soil for volatile organic compound (VOC) concentrations using a photoionization detector (PID). Thirty-one (31) soil samples were collected from the final extent of the excavation and surface run-off area at depths ranging between 3 feet and 15 feet below ground surface (bgs). The soil samples were submitted to Origins Laboratory in Denver, Colorado for analysis of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes (BTEX), total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) - gasoline range organics (GRO) by USEPA Method 8260C, TPH - diesel and oil range organics (DRO and ORO) by USEPA Method 8015, electrical conductivity (EC), and pH. Analytical results indicated that constituent concentrations in soil samples collected from the final extent of the excavation and surface run-off area were below the applicable COGCC Table 910-1 standards. Based on the analytical results, Kerr-McGee is requesting a No Further Action (NFA) determination for this release. The excavation area will be backfilled and contoured to match pre-existing conditions. Soil analytical results are summarized in Table 1 and soil sample locations are illustrated in Figure 2.
