It appears we had a dump valve malfunction on our heater treater which normally dumps the water off to TK-5132 and the condensate to a pressurized tank. The float that alarms operations and controls the dump valve of an overflow in the tank rides up and down on a 1” shaft and DCP believes this became stuck and as a result the operator didn’t see the level spike. A DCP roustabout crew onsite noticed it overflowing and notified the operators immediately. The spill was contained in a concrete containment and was approximately 12 barrels. DCP has contacted a 3rd party to remove the condensate from the containment and the tank within the hour and pumped it back into our stabilizer system. DCP had a dump valve malfunction on the heater treater which normally dumps the water off to this 300 barrel tank and the condensate to a separeate pressurized tank. This valve was stuck open and drained an excess amount of liquids into the tank. Normally, if the tank was being overfilled, a float would alarm operations and dump the excess liquids into an overflow tank. The float inside the 300 barrel produced water tank that alarms operations and controls the dump valve for the tank also malfunctioned and was stuck at showing 51% capacity. This float rides up and down on a 1” shaft in which it became stuck and as a result the operator didn’t see the level spike. These two equipment failures were the cause of this event. DCP is in the process of replacing the heater treater water dump valve with an air actuated liquid cylinder valve (LCV) using an existing vessel flange to attach the float mechanism to. The heater treater water dump valve is currently to remain closed and manually dumped as needed until new LCV is installed. Water accumulation in the heater treater is very minimal. To solve the tank overflow malfunction, DCP is in the process of installing a high level alarm float in the 300 barrel produced water tank. This will tie into the heater treater LCV to close in the rare event a high luquid level was to re-occur. DCP will also be cleaning out this tank for more efficient operations and to decrease the potential of equipment getting stuck or not operating properly. 0 false false false 0 0 Thread was being aborted.
