The pipeline was promptly isolated, preventing further leaking. During excavation, a large amount of dark black stained soil was discovered. The soil had a strong odor and appeared to be degrading organic material similar to an old hydrocarbon release. It is unclear if this contaminated soil indicates a prolonged leak which resulted in the surface spill detected on 10/24/2014, or if it is related to a prior unrelated historical spill. Further investigation and excavation may clarify this issue. Once excavated, a corrosion related breach was discovered in the suspected 4" pipeline. On 10/25/2014, all incoming water was rerouted to well pad tanks and is currently being hauled by truck.
