Approximately 540 cubic yards of impacted material were removed and disposed of at the Waste Management Landfill in Ault, Colorado under PDC waste manifests. Groundwater was not encountered during excavation activities. Approximately 540 cubic yards of impacted material were removed and transported to the Waste Management Landfill in Ault, Colorado under PDC waste manifests. The vertical and lateral extents of the excavation were determined in the field using a photoionization detector (PID) to measure volatile organic compound (VOC) concentrations in soil. On June 16, 2014, four soil samples (SS01 – SS04) were collected from the base and sidewalls of the excavation area and submitted to Summit Scientific Laboratories in Golden, Colorado for laboratory analysis of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX), total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH)-gasoline range organics (GRO), and naphthalene by EPA Method 8260B. Samples were also submitted for analysis of TPH-diesel range organics (DRO) by EPA Method 8015. Analytical results indicated residual hydrocarbon impacts were present on the sidewalls and the base (approximately 18 feet below ground surface [bgs]) of the excavation area. kim loam 1 to 3 percent slopes 35 19 1116 1965 1385 Between June 18 and June 19, 2014, excavation of impacted soil was subsequently conducted. Twelve soil samples (SS05 – SS16) were collected from the sidewalls of the excavation area at depth intervals of 8 feet bgs and 14 feet bgs. Soil samples were submitted for laboratory analysis of BTEX, naphthalene, and TPH – GRO/DRO. Analytical results indicated constituent concentrations in soil samples collected from the sidewalls of the excavation area are below regulatory standards, with the exception of those collected from the northeast sidewall (SS09/SS10). However, impacted soil adjacent to SS09 and SS10 was not removed due to the presence of a buried gas line owned by others. Consequently, four soil samples (TP01 – TP04) were collected from a test pit located northeast of the buried gas line to delineate the lateral extent of the residual hydrocarbon plume. Analytical results indicate constituent concentrations in the test pit location are below regulatory standards. Groundwater was not encountered during excavation activities. Soil analytical results are summarized on Table 1 and the laboratory analytical reports are included as Attachment A.
