| Spill Description: |
| On July 20, 2024 a lightning strike occurred at Facility 9 and struck a 400bbl above ground storage tank (AST) containing produced water. The strike caused the tank to catch fire. KPK understands that a nearby resident notified the Fort Lupton Fire Department (FLFD) who responded to the incident. FLFD notified KPK of the incident at approximately 9:05 pm and arrived on-site at 9:30 pm. Upon arrival the Fire Department had extinguished the fire using foam and KPK proceeded to isolate the tank by shutting valves. At this time no obvious signs of a release were observed and the debris from the tank was then recovered and placed into the secondary containment. On July 22, 2024, KPK Safety personnel arrived on-site to collect photos of the damaged AST and documented that the tank was compromised and a slow leak was observed at the bottom on the northeast side of the AST (see photos). Less than 1 bbl of produced was released and the release was contained within the secondary containment. |
