| The pumping unit at the wellsite went down, which lead to the transfer pump shutting off. While the transfer pump was off, water in a check valve froze and broke the valve, causing produced water to be released from the tank. Approximately 24 bbls of produced water spilled to a lined, bermed containment area. The liner was not intact, and the water flowed from the containment across the location. A small amount of produced water also flowed off the location. A figure showing the spill source and path is attached. The release did not impact Spring creek, but did terminate approximately 250’ from the creek. Upon discovery, Hilcorp operators recovered approximately 19 bbls of standing water. The remaining 5 bbls soaked into the soil and could not be recovered. Soil sampling is scheduled for Monday, 12/23, pending landowner notification. There was no immediate threat to adjacent waterbodies, wildlife or the public. |
