| During the flowline abandonment, a historic release was uncovered below a previous repair of the flowline. Discolored and odorous soil was present and field measurement with PID confirmed hydrocarbon presence. Extent was determined by excavating to 17 ft at the point of discovery to where soil changed back to match the surrounding color, did not possess an odor and did not register on the PID meter. Trenches were dug outward in the four cardinal directions and to the same 17 ft depth of the center extent until the soil changed back to match the surrounding color, did not possess an odor and did not register on the PID meter. Total cross sectional area is 35' by 35', and about 50% of the over burden is clean due to the cone shape of the plume. Clean overburden will be stock piled during the remaining excavation of the contaminated soil. Groundwater was not encountered. |
