CAUSE NO. 151

ORDER NO. 151-1

REPORT OF THE COMMISSION

This cause came on for hearing before the Commission on February 21, 1961, at 10:00 a.m., in Room 227, State Services Building, Denver, Colorado, after publication of Notice of Hearing as required by law, on the application of the Horizon Oil & Gas Co. for an order granting permission and authority to dually complete its No. 1-22 Cogburn well, located in the center of the NW¼ NW¼ of Section 22, Township 33 South, Range 42 West, 6th P.M., Baca County, Colorado, with no commingling of production from the Upper Morrow and Topeka "A" formations.

FINDINGS

The Commission finds as follows:

1.      That due notice of the time, place and purpose of the hearing has been given in all respects as required by law.

2.      That the Commission has jurisdiction over the subject matter embraced in said Notice, and of the parties interested therein, and jurisdiction to promulgate the hereinafter prescribed order.

3.      That Applicant is the owner of oil and gas leases which cover, among other lands, the NW¼ of Section 22, Township 33 South, Range 42 West, 6th P.M., Baca County, Colorado, and has drilled its No. 1-22 Cogburn well, located in the NW¼ NW¼ of said Section 22.

4.      That in the drilling of said well, the top of the Topeka "A" formation was encountered at a depth of approximately 3030 feet, and the top of the Upper Morrow formation was encountered at a depth of approximately 4666 feet; and that the Morrow formation was perforated at 4674 feet, and the Topeka formation was perforated at 3038 to 3048 feet, and 3058 to 3063 feet; and that production tests indicate that said well is capable of producing from both the Topeka formation and the Morrow formation.

5.      That all available geological and engineering data concerning the No. 1-22 Cogburn well indicate that said well can be dually completed by perforating at the above intervals, and setting a Baker Model D packer at 4642 feet so that all of the production from the Morrow formation, will be produced through 1½  inch tubing from the Baker packer to the top of the ground, and production from the Topeka formation will be produced through 1-inch tubing run from the Topeka formation to the top of the ground; and that the production of gas from either or both of said formations shall be produced independently and without any commingling prior to the point of delivery of gas into the gathering pipeline.

6.      That the granting of Applicant's request, and the completion and production of said well in the manner hereinabove described, will not result in waste, and that no damage will result to either formation because of such dual zone completion.

ORDER

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED, that the Horizon Oil & Gas Co. is hereby granted permission and authority for dual zone completion of its No. 1-22 Cogburn well, located in the center of the NW¼ NW¼ of Section 22, Township 33 South, Range 42 West, 6th P.M., Baca County, Colorado, with gas to be produced from the Morrow formation from perforations at a depth of 4674 feet, and from the Topeka formation at depths of from 3038 feet to 3048 feet, and from 3058 feet to 3063 feet, in the manner set forth in Finding 5 hereof; and prior to delivery of gas from said well into the gathering pipeline, there shall be no commingling of gas from said Morrow and Topeka formations, and the well shall be operated at all times so as to prevent any flow of gas from one formation into the other formation.

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED, that the Commission expressly reserves its right, after notice and hearing, to alter, amend or repeal any and/or all of the above order.

ORDERED this 21st day of February 1961.
